7 basic types of shots that uses in films

      Hello everyone, Today we see about some basic types of camera angle shot that all uses in movies. Every CINEMATOGRAPHER must know these type of shot. If you are a beginner this blog post will surely help to improve your cinematography skill.

     Each single shot says something in a situation. There are basic 7 types of shots that always use in cinema movies to give a cinematic feel. Here we see.

1. Extreme wide angle shot


     Extreme wide angle shot are uses to show a location or a place. It must be too far from the subject or a place to show the entire view to the audience. It subconsciously conveys message to the audience that what place is this and where they are or a showing location. This type of shot uses rarely in movies. This shot is particularly use only with wide angle lens.

2. Wide angle shot


     Wide angle shots widely use to cover the character's entire body. It shows clearly what the character is doing and what is the situation is there. We can see this shot commonly in movies. Wide angle shot covers the character's top to bottom to show the situation and body language. This shot also shoot with wide angle lens. 

3. Medium shot


     Medium shot is a common shot that covers from the character's head to above the leg knee. This shot is really helpful to show a conversation between 3 or more characters. It is also called master shot. Medium shot also use for various situation like running, walking and any other physical activities. We can see this shot in many scenes at movies. 

4. Medium close shot


     Medium close shot covers a subject's head and cut off upto the middle or lower chest. It shows only a little part of background and shows some facial expression clearly. To convey emotion to the audience by facial expression act, the medium close up shots are very helpful. We mostly use this shot to capture the actor/actress emotion acting. It is also best for over the shoulder shot.

5. Close up shot


     Close up shot is similar to medium close up shot by the angles and also by the emotions. It covers from the hair or forehead to the chin area. It makes audience to engage with the emotions by the actor/actress acting. It is really important in all movies to convey emotions more strongly than medium close shot. This type of shot particularly use to convey emotions.

6. Extreme close up shot


     Extreme close up shot can easily understand by the word 'extreme' which means a detailed close up shot. In this view the camera focus on a particular part of body or subject. For example :- A man or women showings a angry expression on his/her face, we can easily convey this emotion by close up shot but also we can use extreme close up shot by showing their eyes or lips. Here extreme close up helps to give a minute detail. 

7. Point of view


     Point of view shot is also known as POV shot. It shows that what the character is looking at. For example :- If a character seeing something, suddenly the next shot is beach so, here they subconsciously shown that the character is looking the beach. It can apply at anything here in the above image the character is seeing the girl so, here the image taken from the character's vision of what he is seeing.
